Franco Colapinto has been relegated two places in the results of the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix for a yellow flag infringement.

The stewards also issued him one penalty point for the offence. He is the first driver this year to receive a penalty point on his licence.

The stewards issued Colapinto a 10-second time penalty. He originally finished eighth but falls to 10th as a result of the penalty. Racing Bulls team mates Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad are promoted to eighth and ninth respectively.

The stewards found Colapinto did not sufficiently reduce his speed in reaction to a yellow flag. They ruled that although “the driver of car 43 slightly reduced speed before entering the single yellow flag zone, [he] did not discernibly reduce speed in the relevant yellow flag sector.

“The stewards acknowledge that the driver reacted to the yellow flag but do not consider the reaction to be sufficient to comply with the regulations. Therefore a penalty on the lower end of the applicable scale of penalties is imposed.”

Colapinto still had one penalty point on his licence which he incurred last year, meaning he is now on a total of two.

Alpine’s rivals Williams were also fined a total of €10,000 (£8,630) for failing to remove their equipment from the grid before the 15-second signal.

“When car 23 [Alexander Albon] was released from its jacks before the start of the formation lap parts of the right front tyre blanket got caught under the car,” the stewards explained. “Although the team tried to remove the parts before the start of the formation lap, these attempts were unsuccessful and car left with a cable still hanging off the car and the team thereby did not take all of their equipment with them after the 15-second signal.”

Williams also left a plastic box on the floor next to the sister car of Carlos Sainz Jnr.
