Emma Stone had only positive memories to share of her ex Andrew Garfield, whom she met on the set of 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man and dated for four years.
Stone, who played Gwen Stacy, starred opposite Garfield as Peter Parker in the film, and made a rare comment about him in Vogue’s Life in Looks the same week that the actress was revealed as the cover star of the publication’s September issue. In the sit-down with Stone—published on August 14—the subject of Garfield came up after Stone began talking about the yellow Versace gown she wore to the 2014 premiere of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in London.

“I mean, I really loved doing Spider-Man,” she said. “I loved everyone I worked with. I met Andrew there. I met Sally Field, and Marc Webb was wonderful. It was really a special time in my life.”
“The recurring theme is the people, more than kind of, like, the film itself, is what sticks with me for so long,” Stone added. “And so I have only, like, the fondest memories of this whole experience.”

What Stone could have lived without from those days, though? The press tours, she added: “I don’t really know how people do it,” she said. “I remember it being like, nine countries in maybe two weeks, and you’re functioning in a state of jet lag never previously known to you. I felt truly psychotic the entire time.”
“So, I’m half dead in this picture, but I love the look,” Stone said, bringing it back full-circle to the Versace dress.

Garfield, too, has shared positive memories of his time filming with Stone. He told Variety back in 2021 that working on the movies was “beautiful” because he “got to meet Emma and work with her.” He also mentioned meeting and working with Field as a highlight.

Speaking to Vanity Fair in 2017, Garfield also said of Stone, “We care about each other so much, and that’s a given, that’s kind of this unconditional thing.”
“There’s so much love between us and so much respect,” he continued, adding, “I’m her biggest fan as an artist.”
“It’s been bliss to be able to watch her success and watch her bloom into the actress that she is,” Garfield added. “And it’s been wonderful to have that kind of support for each other. It’s nothing but a beautiful thing.”
