Love Island couple Tommy Fury and Molly-Mae Hague have finally announced their son’s name, and it’s fair to say, not everyone is a fan.
And in keeping up with the tradition of giving their children unique names, this one takes the cake.
The newest addition to the Fury-Hague household is Midas, with the famous UK couple making the announcement at Fury’s fight against the world’s strongest man, Eddie Hall, on Sunday morning (AEST).
The unusual moniker was emblazoned on Fury’s jacket, with the proud dad-of-two showing it off moments before the match kicked off.
Fury also had his daughter’s name, Bambi, written on the back of his shorts.
After beating Hall, Fury put on an England shirt adorned with ‘Midas’ and the number two written on the back, while his partner, Hague, watched ringside and supported him during his fight.
“This was for my new baby son, Midas,” Fury told the crowd after his win.
“Welcome to the world!”
The couple had teased their son’s name would come during Fury’s walk to the ring, with fans divided over the big reveal.
“It’s almost like they don’t know the story of King Midas,” one person wrote.
“Why Midas? His story isn’t exactly a positive one,” a second shared.
“That’s a terrible name,” echoed a third.
“They’re just rage-baiting at this point,” another posted.
A few Australians even chimed in and reminded Fury that Midas is the name of a car service and auto repair chain in Australia.
The name Midas isn’t something the couple picked randomly; it actually originates from Greek and Roman mythology.
The infamous King Midas is a figure from ancient mythology who was cursed with the “golden touch”, resulting in everything he touched turning to gold.
Thesedays it’s more commonly used in the popular expression, “the Midas touch”, which describes the ability to be exceptionally lucky.
Hague previously teased that their son’s name would be revealed in Fury’s boxing match, saying that she’d been thinking about putting their new son’s name on his shorts in a recent vlog.
“I’ve been designing Tommy’s shorts for his fight, and I’m thinking about potentially putting I don’t know if we’re going like I don’t [because] I don’t know what the timeline’s going to be,” she said in a recent YouTube vlog.
“I’m thinking, do I put the name of baby number two on his fight shorts? Because he always has Bambi’s name on his fight shorts, and I don’t want to leave the second baby off.
“But also maybe that’s how we announce the name is on his fight shorts. That would actually be quite cool.”
The pair welcomed their son in early June, posting a collaborative photo on Instagram of the couple with their first child, Bambi, and their newborn in the hospital, captioning it, “and then there were 4”.
The post drew more than 1.5 million likes within two hours of posting as fans and friends flooded the comments with support.
Hague has continued to sporadically post about the new bundle of joy, posting a photo of her in the hospital with Midas, captioning it, “I don’t think I’ll ever get over this day …. the most incredible birth I could have ever asked for”.
It’s not the first time the couple have copped backlash for their choice in baby name, with Bambi’s moniker sparking concern among fans when she was born back in 2019.
At the time, the popular influencer had even admitted the name they had chosen their first born was “really, really unusual”, even going as far to speculate many would “hate it”.
The decision split fans, with some stating it was “beautiful” while others claimed it was “cruel”.
“Molly Mae is the prime example of ‘Remember you are naming an adult human not a baby’,” one wrote.
“Guys I’m gonna be so real with you rn [right now]. Bambi is a dreadful name. Stop naming babies and start naming people,” another raged.
As another claimed: “Bambi Fury sounds like the name of a knock-off Disney parody.”
Hague’s due date had originally been the day of Fury’s highly anticipated fight, but he was delivered a little earlier than expected.
Fury defeated Eddie Hall by majority decision in their six-round heavyweight exhibition match at the AO Arena in Manchester, England, despite a massive 49kg weight difference.
The pair met in 2019 as contestants on the fifth season of the UK reality dating show Love Island.
They hit it off immediately, bonding over being the same age, sharing similar interests, and living near each other in Manchester.
The couple became engaged in July 2023 before splitting in August 2024.
They later rekindled their romance and confirmed they were back together in May 2025, although the reason for the break-up has never been made known to the public.
