Former Minnesota Gopher and Chanhassen native Mike Reilly is now a Stanley Cup champion after the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Las Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday night.

Reilly captures hockey’s holy grail in his 11th NHL season after joining the Hurricanes as a free agent earlier this season.

The defenseman’s playoff run was highlighted by a pair of assists in the Hurricanes’ Game 1 victory against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Reilly is the 15th former Gopher player or coach to win the Stanley Cup and is one of 22 former Gophers that played in the NHL this season. It’s also the fifth year in a row that a former Gopher has raised the Stanley Cup.

Recent champions include Erik Johnson in 2022, Phil Kessel in 2023, Kyle Okposo in 2024 and Nate Schmidt in 2025.

In 42 regular season games, Reilly scored one goal and tallied eight assists.

Hurricanes forward Jackson Blake is an Eden Prairie high school graduate and helped the Eagles win the 2021 state title.

Hurricanes defenseman K’Andre Miller graduated from Minnetonka High School.
