Salt Moon is a creative studio designed to go beyond execution alone, that benefits from the experience of one of Australia’s most awarded crafters at the helm.
Founded by acclaimed photographer and director Simon Harsent, Salt Moon offers the Australian and international creative community a level of experience and creative sensibility that promises to elevate the quality of creative partnerships, focused on craft skills and a deeper sense of creative collaboration.
Rather than operating from a fixed production model, Salt Moon is built around the belief that every project has different requirements. Some benefit from integrating seamlessly into an existing production structure, while others call for a purpose-built team assembled around a specific creative challenge. The approach changes. The commitment to the work does not.
As the creative landscape continues to evolve, the strongest work increasingly comes from smart collaboration. Tight timelines and constrained budgets don’t diminish the need for craft; they make it more important. With the right people around an idea, experience and craft become a genuine creative advantage.
Says Harsent: “For me, genuine creativity shouldn’t be compromised by financial restraint; instead, it should be energised by the challenge. That’s the true, commercial advantage of craft skills that I think gets increasingly overlooked.”
Harsent says that the name was inspired by watching the sea rolling beneath a full moon: “The way light found form in constant motion. That same restlessness is at the heart of my practice.”
Harsent brings decades of experience across photography and film to the venture, with a truly vast body of award-winning work. His reputation for crafting imagery that is both visually compelling and deeply human underpins Salt Moon’s offer to the market.
“Artists are not simply here to execute ideas — they are here to help shape them.”
Salt Moon’s inaugural commission has already been completed for Droga5, with Harsent working across its New York, London and Sydney agencies to help realise their ambitious ‘No Place To Grow’ project for We Are Mobilise. A tangible demonstration of what’s possible when genuine trust and creative combine.
