Floyd Mayweather faces more legal trouble after two felony charges were filed against him over allegations he used a bad cheque to buy a $US200,000 watch in 2024.

The charges are for theft and intent to defraud. They carry a penalty of up to 20 years in jail for a guilty verdict, but lengthy sentences of that nature are uncommon.

ESPN reports Mayweather wrote a $US200,000 cheque for a watch he bought at a high-end Las Vegas store in December 2024.

However, court records in the report state Mayweather “had insufficient money, property, or credit” in his bank account to pay the amount in full.

The theft charge alleges the former boxing world champion bought the watch “knowing that the cheque would not be paid when presented”.

The lawyer for the store filing the action, Gold & Beyond, said his client didn’t want to approach authorities but Mayweather left him with no choice because he was “ignored”.

“The reason for the delay is that my guy trusted Mayweather and was trying to give him every opportunity to make good on that,” Marc Cook said.

“And it got to the point where he wasn’t getting responses and wasn’t getting money for a watch that Mayweather had for well over a year.”

The undefeated fighter, who is set take on Mike Zambidis in a Greece exhibition later this month, has had a myriad of legal and financial issues pop up over the past 12 months.

At least four civil cases filed allege Mayweather owes money and he was issued with a $US7.2 million levied against Mayweather for unpaid taxes in 2018 and 2023.

A Las Vegas-area gated community also filed a separate lien of over $US22,500.

Mayweather is also the plaintiff in separate suits he brought earlier this year against Showtime for $US340 million and his former business associates for $US175 million.

He alleged fraud and “aiding and abetting breach of fiduciary duty” in both civil cases.

ESPN reported Mayweather still has his passport and has been given the green light to leave the country for Greece, despite a threat of it being revoked at one point because of the IRS debt.
