Canterbury Bulldogs winger Marcelo Montoya has confirmed that he will retire at the end of 2026 after ten seasons in the top grade.

A local junior and 2017 Steve Mortimer Rookie of the Year, Montoya, made his debut for the Bulldogs in 2017 and remained at the club until 2020 before joining the New Zealand Warriors the following season.

Appearing in 82 matches and scoring 30 tries for the club, he then made the move back to Belmore after an opportunity arose for the nine-time Fijian international at the beginning of last season.

“I started my career here so it feels right to also finish it as a Bulldog,” Montoya said in a club statement.

“From the kid running around for the Bankstown Bulls to playing in NRL Finals series’ and representing my culture on the biggest stages, I’ll be forever grateful for the opportunities rugby league have given myself and my family.

“While I’m excited for the next chapter, I’m 100% focussed on finishing this season off strongly and hopefully doing something special with my brothers.”

ROOSTERS ENFORCER PENS NEW DEAL

The Sydney Roosters have confirmed the extension of forward enforcer Siua Wagon on a new two-year contract, which will keep him at the club until at least the end of the 2028 season.

The new deal comes as Wong is entering the prime of his career and has taken his game to new heights during this year’s campaign.

“The Roosters have been a huge part of my life for a long time, so it’s really special to be able to extend my time here,” said Wong.

“I’ve come through the Academy and been fortunate to learn from so many great coaches, staff and players along the way. This Club has helped shape me both as a footballer and as a person.

“I’m proud to represent the Roosters and excited about what we’re building as a group. I can’t wait to keep working hard and hopefully contribute to more success for the Club over the coming years.”

Still only 23 years of age, Wong has made 53 appearances for the club since his debut in 2023 and has represented both Fiji (four games) and Tonga (five matches) in the international arena.

“Siua is exactly the type of player and person we want at the Sydney Roosters, and a great example of what can be achieved through our Academy and pathways system,” the club’s Director of Football, Michell Aubusson, added.

“He’s a terrific young man who has earned everything through hard work, dedication and a willingness to continually improve.

“We’re incredibly proud of the progress he has made since joining the Academy and we’re delighted that he’ll remain a Rooster until at least the end of 2028.”
