Joe Tryon-Shoyinka has decided to hang up his cleats.
The 27-year-old pass rusher has spent the past five seasons in the NFL having been drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round (32nd overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Tryon-Shoyinka spent four seasons in Tampa Bay before playing for the Cleveland Browns and Chicago Bears.
He then signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason.

However, it was was reported earlier his week that Tryon-Shoyinka was a no-show at minicamp for the Eagles.
On Tuesday, Philly placed him on the reserve/retired list.

Being placed on the reserve/retired list in the NFL means a player has chosen to retire before their contract expires.
The move removes Tryon-Shoyinka from the Eagles’ 90-man roster and the team will hold onto his rights in the event he decides to one day come out of retirement and return to the league.
The 6-5, 260-pound Tryon-Shoyinka played three seasons of college football for the Washington Huskies.
As a redshirt freshman, he played in 12 games with 20 tackles, two tackles for loss and one sack. Tryon-Shoyinka made 41 tackles with 12.5 tackles for loss and eight sacks in his redshirt sophomore season and was named second-team All-Pac-12 Conference.
The outside linebacker was the Bucs’ first draft pick after the team won the Super Bowl with Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski in February 2021.

In four years with the Buccaneers, Tryon-Shoyinka had 138 tackles and 15 sacks, and ultimately his fifth-year option wasn’t picked up.
He then hit the free agency market in 2025 and signed with the Browns on a one-year deal.
The otusidetraded to the Bears later that year, but did not register a sack in eight games with either team.
Tryon-Shoyinka signed with the Eagles on March 30 this year.
However, he didn’t appear for the media-attended spring practices and wasn’t there for the two-day mandatory minicamp.
Now, he’s decided to retire having never played a snap for the Eagles, ending his career with 160 tackles, 15 sacks and two forced fumbles in 82 games and 45 starts.
The Eagles were quick to sign a replacement in defensive end AJ Epenesa, formerly of the Buffalo Bills.
They also made several other roster moves, waiving Brandon Johnson and signing wide receiver Erik Ezukanma and cornerback Shaun Wade off the UFL.
The news comes after retired Ravens and Eagles star Za’Darius Smith appeared to make a comeback decision, with a new team hinted.
