For one glittering evening, Melbourne became the centre of the fashion and jewellery world as the National Gallery of Victoria welcomed guests to celebrate the opening of Cartier, the 2026 Melbourne Winter Masterpieces exhibition. The landmark showcase—a new and larger adaptation of the Victoria & Albert Museum’s acclaimed exhibition and the largest presentation of Cartier ever staged in Australia—played centre stage for a night of commemorating everything that glimmers.
Inside the NGV’s newest offering, guests relished among extraordinary jewels, historic treasures and archival masterpieces that trace Cartier’s influence on fashion, culture and design. The exhibition features loans from significant international collections, alongside highlights from the Cartier Collection. But before stepping into the exhibition itself, all eyes were on the night’s arrivals. From impeccable tailoring to statement jewellery moments, there were plentiful looks that set the tone for Melbourne’s most stylish night.
Among the arrivals to celebrate were actors Sarah Snook, Elizabeth Debicki, and Leila George, while Vogue Australia editor-in-chief Christine Centenera made an appearance on the night. Cartier’s image, style and heritage director Pierre Rainero also celebrated the night alongside exhibition designer Sabine Marcelis.
