Dave Rundle and Dale Steyn on The Biggest Man in Cricket podcast.
Proteas batsman David Miller has played international cricket since 2010. He has collected 178 ODI and 140 T20I appearances.
Miller has never played a Test match. Former Proteas fast bowler Dale Steyn and player agent Dave Rundle spoke to the The Biggest Man in Cricket podcast about Miller.
Dave Rundle: David Miller should have been playing Test cricket
“David was getting big money offers to go and play in the Big Bash and he turned it down to play four-day cricket for the Dolphins because he wanted to put his hand up and wanted to get selected for the Test side,” said Steyn.
“The man goes and scores, like, two centuries, averages 45, does really well. He hasn’t even played a red-ball A team match before.
“How is this guy, who has played for South Africa for 15 years, not had one chance in a red-ball team – are you joking? Just take him on tour, give him an A team tour. When you’re turning down big money for that opportunity.”
Rundle added: “He’s not a guy that I’ve managed, but someone like David Miller, he should have been playing Test cricket and batting at number number six.
“If I was managing him, I’d say ‘David, we need a marketing campaign to get it out of people’s heads that you only play T20 cricket.’ What do you do? I need a team around me who can teach me how to play Test cricket.”
