A royal commentator has claimed Prince William will be “furious” about Meghan Markle’s return to the UK next month alongside Prince Harry and their children, Archie and Lilibet.
It is the first time the Duchess of Sussex, 44, will have visited the UK in four years, having last made the trip for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022.
Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, have spent even longer away from their father’s family, having last travelled to the UK for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in July the same year.
The purpose of their upcoming trip is to attend an event marking the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games in Birmingham.
It is unclear whether the Sussexes will spend time with King Charles or the wider Royal Family, but Harry, 41, has previously expressed a desire to reconcile with his family.
According to royal commentator Mark Dolan, Meghan’s return to the UK may be a sign that she and Harry “need to be part of the Royal Family again”.
“They need the optics, they need the titles, they need the status, they need the elevated position it gives them because at the moment, we’ve seen that Meghan’s popularity is dropping in the United States,” he claimed to The Sun.
“So it’s a great moment for them and a terrible blow for Team Wales.
“Prince William will be furious.”
Royal biographer Phil Dampier told the Daily Mail that, while King Charles is keen to reconcile with the Sussexes, there is “no way” the Prince and Princess of Wales will want to be in the same room as them.
The author claimed Queen Camilla may also avoid them because she feels “she was badly treated” in Harry’s 2023 memoir, Spare.
“I’ve been told very frankly, by friends of William and Catherine, that they absolutely loathe them,” journalist Tom Sykes added.
“They completely blame Meghan for what has happened.”
The warring brothers were last in the same room in August 2024 for the memorial service for their uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes.
While they were both in attendance, William and Harry arrived separately and are not believed to have had a conversation.
Meanwhile, Harry and Charles have had a few in-person meetings, with the most recent being a 50-minute tea held at Clarence House in September 2025.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from royal duties and moved to the United States in 2020.
