Celtic face their biggest game of the season in midweek when they face Kairat Almaty.

The Champions League play-off is the final obstacle stood between getting into the league phase of the competition, and Brendan Rodgers’ side know it will be tough.

Kairat beat Slovan Bratislava on penalties and, despite being the lowest-ranked team left in the competition, know that teams have to make a gruelling 4,000 mile-plus journey to Kazakhstan.

With the first Glasgow derby of the season days after the second leg in Almaty, there is hope that they can get it done and dusted at Celtic Park on 20 August.

But, Hugh Keevins, who thinks Hibernian and Hearts are better than Celtic, delivered another wild claim on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard.

The Daily Record columnist has been on a strong run of wild claims about Celtic in the past few days but has now gone on to suggest that Celtic are lacking in the goal-scoring department.

Across their three games in all competitions, the Hoops have scored seven times – suggesting that they are capable of sticking the ball in the back of the net.

However, Keevins was in total disagreement with one caller on the Superscoreboard when he said that Celtic have enough firepower to get past their opponents in midweek.

“Are you kidding me on?” Keevins said. “Celtic have enough firepower?

“The one area of the side where Celtic are seriously in trouble is up front. They have no firepower.

“I think they will need a very good lead from Celtic Park.”

🗣️ “Celtic are gambling on being the Champions League without adding to a squad that’s been denied a lot of goals.”

🫣 “At the moment, Adam Idah is not the answer.”

Celtic still have goal scorers throughout the team

There is no denying that when the likes of Nicolas Kuhn depart, those goals are hard to replace.

Yes, none of the strikers are yet to get off the mark this season, but are we forgetting how many goals they bagged last season?

Daizen Maeda struck 33 times in all competitions while Adam Idah also hit 20. Across the rest of the team there are also plenty of goals within the ranks.

Callum McGregor and Reo Hatate have always chipped in, Benjamin Nygren has a proven record abroad and defenders like to get in on the act from set pieces.

It’s still early days and to completely write off the idea of Celtic having no goal scorers seems preposterous.
