CHAZ Mostert this afternoon has the chance to become the first driver to win their 400th ATCC/Supercars Championship race.
The Walkinshaw TWG Racing driver has put himself in the mix thanks to a timely first Top 10 Shootout appearance of the year.
Having been sixth in Qualifying for Race 18, Mostert turned up the wick in the one-lap dash with a super effort to push him further up the grid.
“It’s nice to make the top 10 (Shootout), it’s been a while since I’ve been able to get in,” he said on the broadcast.
RACE 18 GRID: The Saturday starting order for Darwin Supercars
The #1 Mobil 1 Optus Supra will start today’s 70-lap Darwin contest from fourth, behind the Mustangs of Cam Waters, Brodie Kostecki and Matt Payne.
Fourth was the winning grid slot yesterday for Waters.
Mostert becomes the 22nd driver to enter Supercars’ 400 club.
Mostert’s enduro co-driver Fabian Coulthard has come closest of anyone in the past to winning in their 400th start, having placed second (in Race 2 of the 2019 Townsville 400, which was won by Shane van Gisbergen).
Race 18 of the 2026 Repco Supercars Championship is scheduled to get underway this afternoon at 3:20pm local (3:50pm AEST).
