Former Dragons premiership-winning captain Ben Hornby has reportedly presented to the committee charged with appointing the club’s new head coach.
According to The Daily Telegraph, the 46-year-old is one of the leading candidates to become Shane Flanagan’s permanent successor, with the Dragons actively searching for a replacement.

Hornby and interim coach Dean Young, former Dragons teammates, are considered the frontrunners for the position.
Young was appointed interim coach for the remainder of the season after Flanagan stepped down from the job in April, with the Dragons winning one of their seven games under his guidance.

According to the report, Hornby was only interested in the position if he was approached by the club, given his friendship with Young.
The club has now reportedly made the first move to put Hornby firmly in the race, though it declined to comment to the Daily Telegraph.
Young has thus far failed to spark a big turnaround for the Dragons.
Since taking over from Flanagan seven games ago, the Dragons have only won one game.
Hornby, currently a South Sydney assistant coach, led the Dragons to their most recent premiership win in 2010, playing 273 games for the Red V.
He previously served as an assistant for the club before joining the Rabbitohs in 2020, working under Wayne Bennett and Jason Demetriou.
