US Vice President JD Vance has arrived in Switzerland, where talks aimed at advancing the peace agreement between his country and Iran are scheduled to take place.
Mr Vance is joined in Europe by fellow US officials, as well as those representing Pakistan, which has been acting as a mediator, and Iran itself.
Meanwhile an Italian newspaper has fiercely backed up the country’s Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, in her feud with US President Donald Trump, calling him an “idiot”.
That’s actually the most polite possible translation of the word “coglione”, which literally means “testicle” but, as a colloqiual term, is more akin to “a**hole” or “d***head”.
Mr Trump started the spat with Ms Meloni by claiming she had “begged” him for a selfie during the G7 Summit, something she then said he’d “fabricated”.
He elaborated on his sudden dislike for the conservative leader, a former ally of his, in a lengthy social media post.
Ms Meloni again responded, firing back at a potshot about her supposed unpopularity by saying “I suggest you focus on yours”.
Elsewhere Iran says it has shut down the Strait of Hormuz again, blaming Israeli ceasefire breaches in Lebanon and a US failure to hold up its end of Mr Trump’s peace deal.
