With the Warriors leading by ten points with ten to go, the home side scored a try through Adam Pompey, who dived on a loose ball after Cowboys fullback Scott Drinkwater appeared to knock on a bomb in a contest with opposite number Taine Tuaupiki.

However, a slow motion replay showed the Warriors fullback knock the ball on into Drinkwater, yet the try would be confirmed.

“That will go against the Warriors … Instead, it has been confirmed,” a puzzled Matt Russell said in commentary.

“That’s off Tuaupiki,” Steve Roach added.

While Payten wasn’t making any excuses, he lamented the decision given it was at a crucial juncture of the game and thwarted any chance of a Cowboys comeback.

“Those moments, that’s the difference,” Payten said.

“I’m pretty certain Tuaupiki touched that ball … I don’t know if it was checked, but … I was pretty certain it was touched.

“The margin was ten points there at the time.

“I’ll tell you what will really be frustrating, if we get an apology email through the week or a phone call, you know?”

Payten said he wasn’t sure how the try was overturned given the camera angles available to the Bunker.

“When the bunker has so many angles, I understand there’s going to be human error, but they’re big moments. Games can turn on those types of decisions and they’re getting too many wrong in the game,” he said.

”We will make a phone call. We’ll send an email, them a phone call and see how we go.”
