City Golf Club is marking its centenary year with a multimillion-dollar redevelopment that will reshape the Toowoomba venue’s golfing, gaming and hospitality facilities.
Major renovations at the club are underway, with the project expected to cost between $16 million and $19 million.
The redevelopment will include a complete overhaul of the pro shop, an expanded gaming area, a new multi-purpose function room and an underground car park.
“This is really about improving the overall community experience,” City Golf Club general manager Andrew Hinton told Club Management.
“It’s an ever-changing landscape, and you’ve got to keep up with the times. Upgrading the facilities is key to maintaining the standards and service that our members and the wider golf community expect.”
The new pro shop, which forms part of stage one of the redevelopment, will feature upgraded training facilities and a completely new look.
“We want to give back to golf with a new pro shop. The current one is a bit outdated,” Hinton said.
He added the club’s internal spaces would also be refurbished to create a more premium experience for members and guests.
The upgrades come ahead of City Golf Club hosting the Australian Seniors Open later this year.
“We’re hosting the Australian Seniors Open at the end of September and into early October,” Hinton said.
“It’s a national event for professional golfers aged over 50. The renovation won’t be complete by then, but we’ve secured a three-year agreement to host the tournament, so future events will be able to showcase the finished redevelopment.”
The commencement of works also coincides with the club’s 100-year anniversary this year, which was marked with a Gatsby-themed party on Friday 19 June.

Hinton, who is overseeing the redevelopment after joining City Golf Club last year, said the project had been years in the making.
“I came in towards the end of the planning process and made a few tweaks here and there, but most of the work was done by group general manager Neil [Shaw] and CEO Peter Constance,” he said.
“It’s a very progressive club. Opportunities arise all the time and we’re always looking ahead. We employ more than 200 people, and it’s a fantastic community club in Toowoomba. It’s great to be a part of it.”
The first stage of works is expected to be completed by the end of the year, with the second stage scheduled for completion in April.
