A woman has taken to social media to detail the moment she discovered inappropriate after-hours texts between her fiancé and his “work wife” – and his unbelievable response when he got caught.
Sharing a post on Reddit, Kim revealed that her partner Mark had recently started a new role and had become close friends with a woman named Sarah, who he would often dub his “work wife” when telling her workplace-related stories.
“Oh, my work wife made sure I didn’t forget my laptop today,” he would joke, she said.
Sometimes he would gush: “Sarah got us the good coffee. She really looks out for me like a work wife should.”
Kim admitted in the post that she didn’t want to seem overbearing by asking questions about their relationship and decided to brush off his comments.
“I trusted him implicitly. We have been together for four years and are supposed to get married in less than six months,” she shared, adding: “I thought I was building a life with my soulmate.”
However, as time went on, Mark and Sarah’s relationship seemed to become more personal, with the pair texting outside of work hours and sending TikToks and jokes to each other.
Kim eventually admitted to feeling uncomfortable about their correspondence and brought up her concerns with her fiancé.
“Kim, it means nothing. You’re the one I’m going home to,” she said he reassured her.
The extent of Mark and Sarah’s relationship came to light when Kim discovered their messages on an iPad, which had synced to his phone, prompting Kim to “feel like an idiot”.
Among the numerous conversations between the two was a message from Mark saying he dreads weekends because “I don’t get to see your [Sarah’s] face every morning”.
Another text, which was sent after Mark and Kim had disagreed over wedding planning, saw him compare his fiancée and work wife.
“I wish Kim was as easygoing and understanding as you are. You actually get me,” he wrote.
Sarah’s response to Mark’s message only heightened Kim’s worries about their relationship.
“I’ll always be your favourite wife, don’t worry lol,” it read.
The message that pushed Kim over the edge revealed that Mark and Sarah had been engaging in physical affection at after-work drinks.
“My hand and I felt lonely at drinks after you left early last night.”
The discovery prompted Kim to confront her fiance about the messages, however he was quick to accuse her of violating his privacy and overreacting to the correspondence.
“Nothing physical ever happened. It’s just an office flirtation to get through the day,” he said, before adding: “You’re the one getting the ring, so why are you ruining our relationship over words?”
When Kim approached Sarah and asked her about their relationship, she answered similarly to Mark, telling her: “You’re going to ruin your relationship over jealousy.”
Social media users flooded the comments section, with the majority on Kim’s side when it came to the workplace relationship.
“I’m not even going to get into calling another woman any kind of wife while your fiancée hasn’t made it to wife status yet,” one person penned.
Another chimed in: “He told another woman he dreads the weekend because he can’t see her. Who says that?”
