Hunter & Barrel is set to bring its flame-grilled feasts and barrel-aged cocktails to Adelaide, moving into the grand King William Street space most recently home to award-winning seafood restaurant Fishbank.

The heritage-listed 1920s former bank building at 2 King William Street has been home to some of the city’s most high-profile dining rooms, from Jamie’s Italian to Fishbank Bar & Grill, and will soon welcome the sophisticated steakhouse concept from Seagrass Boutique Hospitality Group, the team behind The Meat & Wine Co.

Known for its coal-fired cooking, warm timber and stone interiors, and a menu built around premium steak, slow-cooked meats, and seasonal sides, Hunter & Barrel offers a slightly more relaxed experience than its sister brand, while keeping a focus on top-grade produce. The restaurant will likely be serving its signature feast boards, spit-roasted meats, hearty dishes, and a drinks list featuring barrel-aged cocktails, whisky and bourbon flights.

If it’s set to be anything like The Meat & Wine Co, diners can expect premium cuts cooked to perfection, a curated wine list, and a dining experience that blends style with substance.

The Adelaide opening marks the brand’s first South Australian venue, joining existing Hunter & Barrel restaurants across Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth. Inspired by the “spirit of the communal hunt,” dining rooms across other states have centred around grand, rustic interiors with brown leather and strong wooden and metal detailing.

One thing’s for sure, Hunter & Barrel Adelaide will add to the restaurant’s nationwide motif of high ceilings and unique spaces. While the fit-out for the new tenant is yet to be revealed, the building’s soaring ceilings and art deco detailing will provide a striking backdrop for the steakhouse’s established style.
