MMA fighter Jevontea Yarbrough prepares for his next big challenge
SAVANNAH, Ga. —
Jevontea “Go Ready” Yarbrough, a Miami native and professional MMA fighter out of Savannah, Ga., is chasing his dream of success in the sport, driven by his lifelong passion for athletics and an undefeated record.
“That’s why they call me, Go Ready. Been calling me that since I was a little boy,” Yarbrough said.
Yarbrough grew up as an athlete in Miami, Florida, starting with football as a child before discovering his first love: wrestling.
“Once I started wrestling, like I said, we just went full speed ahead,” Yarbrough said.
Wrestling became a staple in his life, taking him to college and helping him through one of his darkest times.
“I had a real hard time, my sophomore year in college, when I lost one of my first cousins,” Yarbrough said. “He was very close to me.”
Despite the pain, Yarbrough found motivation in sports, earning recognition as a two-time All-American.
“Sports definitely kept me busy,” he said. “Definitely, kept me on the streets.”
After his collegiate career, Yarbrough wasn’t ready to leave athletics behind. He transitioned to a new pursuit: professional MMA fighting.
Reflecting on his debut victory, Yarbrough said, “We were just planning that right hand now all the time.”
In the final 25 seconds of the fight, that right hand landed, securing a knockout victory.
Now, the undefeated fighter is preparing for his next challenge.
“July 11th,” Yarbrough replied when asked when is his next fight. “It should be exciting times and a fun training camp. We are doing everything we need to do here at Championships Training Center.”
