The first day of the 2026 NBA Draft has come and gone, and the Phoenix Suns were quiet. Until they weren’t.
They surprised us again and made a move as the clock struck midnight! John Gambadoro was first on it, as he relayed that the Suns would move up to the 30th pick and select freshman forward Koa Peat.
Peat won four state titles at Perry High School in Gilbert, Arizona, before helping lead the Wildcats to a Final Four appearance. He will now continue his journey in Arizona at the professional level in Phoenix.
The Arizona product averaged 14.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists and shot 53% from the field as a 5-Star freshman. He shot 35% from 3-point range on a limited volume (7-for-20) in Arizona’s system.
In the deal, Phoenix will send the Knicks three 2nd-rounders and cash. Gambo confirmed that pick No. 47 is heading to the Knicks, along with 2029 and 2033 second-rounders.
This was reported earlier today by Jake Fischer, so it should come as no surprise.
“I believe that if Phoenix trades into the first round, Arizona freshman Koa Peat is one of the Suns’ top targets,” Fischer wrote in a Tuesday afternoon edition of The Stein Line newsletter.
Peat is a physical player who adds size, athleticism, and an edge. He fits the exact DNA of the type of players Phoenix likes to target under Brian Gregory’s watch. And fills a position of need in the process.
