Samsung is gearing up for its next Unpacked event, which is rumored to take place in London in late July. It is expected to showcase several new devices, including the foldable Galaxy Fold8 and Fold8 Ultra smartphones, the Galaxy Flip8, and the new Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9 smartwatches. Official press images of the latter have already been published by Android Headlines.
The design of the new watch is practically the same as the Galaxy Watch8: a round display is located on a rounded square body. The sensors on the bottom of the body also appear to have remained unchanged compared to last year’s model.
Like its predecessor, the Galaxy Watch9 will be available in two sizes — 40mm and 44mm. The younger model will be offered in cream and graphite colors, while the older one will be offered in silver and graphite. This is different from the Galaxy Watch8, where both sizes had the same color options.
As before, users will be able to choose between Bluetooth-only or LTE-only versions. At the same time, the company does not yet plan to add 5G modules, although the latest Apple Watch models already work with this technology. The Galaxy Watch9 will also be available with a wide range of interchangeable straps, including the green one shown in the images below.
The main upgrade to the Galaxy Watch9 will be the new premium Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear Elite chipset, unveiled at MWC in March. Samsung has already confirmed its use in its new smartwatches.
Previously, the company used its own Exynos processors in the Galaxy Watch, but this year it has opted for a Snapdragon solution. This is expected to positively affect the performance of the watch and allow it to implement advanced artificial intelligence capabilities.
As for the cost, there is no official data yet. Last year, Samsung already raised prices for smartwatches, and this time analysts predict another increase. The basic version of the Watch9 is expected to cost about $399, and the higher version – about $429. The reason is called the shortage of RAM and other components, which affects the cost of production.
