If there’s one thing Abu Dhabi isn’t short of these days, it’s cultural landmarks. The latest is Dar al Funoon Abu Dhabi, a new Frank Gehry-designed performing arts destination that will bring opera, ballet, theatre and jazz to Saadiyat Island from 2030.

Located alongside institutions including Louvre Abu Dhabi, the upcoming Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and Zayed National Museum, the new venue marks another major investment in the emirate’s long-term cultural ambitions. Translating to House of the Arts, Dar al Funoon Abu Dhabi is intended to support everything from large-scale international productions to experimental performances and artist residencies, while welcoming audiences year-round.
What is Dar al Funoon Abu Dhabi?
Dar al Funoon Abu Dhabi is a new performing arts institution being developed by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi). Conceived as a permanent home for opera, ballet, theatre, orchestral concerts, musicals and contemporary live performance, it will also host artist residencies, international co-productions and touring partnerships with leading cultural organisations from around the world.
The project forms part of Abu Dhabi’s broader vision to strengthen its position as a global destination for creativity and cultural exchange, while expanding opportunities for artists from the UAE, the wider region and beyond.
