Images offer a glimpse into Perth at the beginning of the 20th century.
St Georges Terrace is wide and lined by elegant low rise buildings.
Vehicle traffic is horse and cart. Well-dressed men in suits and hats can be seen standing to one side, watching the passing parade.
The photo, taken in 1905, presents a stark contrast to an updated image taken this week by The West Australian — along with other new images around the city — featuring historian Richard Offen standing in about the same place.
But the constant is that St Georges Terrace remains the city’s premier street.
The old Terrace is but one of the fascinating images of Perth and surrounds from the State Library of WA and Royal WA Historical Society which draw the eye back through the years in Mr Offen’s book Perth Then and Now.
