Egypt finished runners-up in Group G and moved through to the knockout phase of the World Cup for the first time in their history following a dramatic 1-1 draw against Iran on Saturday (AEST).

Dr. Mohamed Aboul Ela said: “He is suffering from a strain in the posterior muscles, following pains he felt during the Iran match, leading to his substitution.

“The player has begun implementing his treatment program.”

Meanwhile, Ahmed Fathy suffered a tear to his posterior muscle and “faces difficultly” to be ready for the clash with the Socceroos.

Mohamed Abdel Moneim, meanwhile, sustained a severe bruise to the ankle.
