NFL Star Terrion Arnold Arrested in Florida Kidnapping Case

Florida prosecutors allege the NFL player was the mastermind behind a violent vigilante plot that left victims beaten, robbed and threatened at gunpoint

Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold is now behind bars in Florida after being arrested for allegedly masterminding a violent kidnapping and armed robbery scheme. Arnold reportedly wanted revenge stemming from the theft of more than $250,000 worth of property stolen from him at an Airbnb.

His arrest is a major update in a case first reported by Los Angeles in March, when Arnold had not yet been charged despite court filings repeatedly identifying him as an alleged organizer of the plot. Since then, police have formally charged Arnold and now describe him as the primary conspirator behind a “carefully coordinated revenge attack.”

According to a lengthy filed Motion for Pre-Trial Detention, prosecutors allege Arnold rented an Airbnb in Largo, Florida, where he and several friends were staying between January 30 and February 1. After unknown thieves stole property from the rental, Arnold allegedly became convinced that Yan Lopez and Daniel Tenesaca were responsible…even though prosecutors say they were not. Lopez was a temporary driver for Arnold, who introduced him to aspiring celebrity barber Tenesaca.

The stolen items reportedly included about $100,000 in cash, an $80,000 necklace, designer bags and an NFL-issued cellphone.

But rather than waiting for law enforcement to investigate, prosecutors allege Arnold and several co-defendants devised a plan to lure Tenesaca to a Tampa apartment under the guise of meeting a woman. Once inside, prosecutors say armed men hiding in a bedroom ambushed Tenesaca and another victim, while a third victim was later dragged into the apartment after becoming suspicious.

The detention motion alleges Arnold coordinated the operation from outside the apartment. Prosecutors say co-defendant Arianna Del Valle live-streamed the confrontation while Arnold and co-defendants Boakai Hilton and Freddie Hughes watched remotely. They further allege Arnold and Hilton gave directions during the assault as the victims were beaten, interrogated and threatened at gunpoint.

According to prosecutors, Arnold later arrived at the apartment with other associates. The victims were allegedly punched, kicked, pistol-whipped and threatened with death while being forced to confess to stealing the Airbnb property. At one point, prosecutors allege one defendant shoved a firearm into a victim’s mouth before the group stole wallets, phones, jewelry, jackets and cash worth approximately $6,260.

The State Attorney’s Office argues Arnold should remain jailed because the allegations demonstrate “a disregard for the safety of the community” and because no conditions of release would adequately protect the public. Prosecutors are seeking pretrial detention, or alternatively, that Arnold continue to be held without bond because the charged offenses are punishable by life in prison.

Arnold has entered a plea of not guilty, according to court filings, and his attorney, Tim Jansen, has demanded a copy of the formal charging information.

He now faces four counts of robbery with a firearm or deadly weapon and four counts of kidnapping causing harm or terrorizing.

The prosecution’s case has also strengthened in recent months. Two co-defendants have already pleaded guilty and agreed to cooperate with authorities, while prosecutors say both Arianna Del Valle and Jasmine Randazzo gave sworn testimony identifying Arnold as the person directing the alleged scheme. Police say both women identified Arnold from photographs, and prosecutors contend their testimony is consistent with their earlier post-Miranda statements.

Arnold’s detention hearing is scheduled for Monday morning in Hillsborough County Circuit Court, where a judge will decide whether he will remain behind bars as the high-profile prosecution moves forward. In a statement, the Lions said they were aware of the situation but did not comment “out of respect for the ongoing legal process.”

Arnold was a 2024 first-round draft pick and signed a four-year rookie contract worth approximately $14.3 million, plus a signing bonus. If he is held pending trial, it’s unclear what happens with his contract.
