Harrison Barnes is headed back to San Antonio.
The 34-year-old veteran forward has agreed to a one-year, $8-million deal to return for a third season with the club, an NBA source confirmed Monday.
Barnes, who is headed toward a 15th NBA season, was the only one of the Spurs’ top 10 scorers with a contract set to expire when the NBA’s offseason free agency period begins Tuesday afternoon.
Earlier Monday, the Spurs also reached a three-year, $45-million extension with starting forward Julian Champagnie.
With that pair of moves, the Spurs took care of their most pressing bit of internal business before the start of free agency.
Barnes began the 2025-26 season as a starter, shifting to the bench in the second half of the campaign. He averaged 9.9 points and shot 45.6% in 77 appearances, during a season in which he saw his streaks of consecutive games played (364) and started (775) came to an end.
Barnes first came to the Spurs as a part of a 2024 trade that sent DeMar DeRozan from Chicago to Sacramento, a three-way deal that required the Kings to jettison Barnes’ salary.
In his first two seasons with San Antonio, Barnes appeared in 159 of 164 regular-season games, with 134 starts.
Despite a role that declined to the point of DNPs in the NBA Finals, Barnes appears poised to rejoin the club for another run at a championship.
“We all occupy a role and the main focus is winning,” Barnes said during the season. “So it’s just trying to figure out ways to impact the game, to still be vocal, to do my part, to help contribute to winning.”
The Spurs, in turn, value Barnes’ veteran leadership and voice in a relatively young locker room.
“Harrison Barnes is as professional and as good of a veteran as you could want in your locker room,” coach Mitch Johnson said.
