When it comes to space, black holes remain the ultimate cosmic mystery, but astronomers have now detected the largest black hole in history.

It’s so big, they’re calling it ‘ultra’ massive to convey the extent of its size.

Its mass is 36 times greater than our sun with gravity so powerful that light bends around it, creating what scientists call the Cosmic Horseshoe.

Astrophysicist Dr Brad Tucker from the Australian National University spoke to Craig and Loretta on Breakfast about what the discovery means for our understanding of the universe.
