SmallRig has announced its Cage Kit for the Sony FX6 (MFR #5801), a modular rigging solution designed primarily for vertical shooting with Sony’s full-frame cinema camera. The kit includes a side handle adapter for repositioning the original FX6 side handle vertically, along with a V-mount battery plate, a D-Tap-to-DC power cable, a NATO rail, a cold shoe, and multiple accessory mounting points. We recently covered SmallRig’s camera cage kit for the Nikon ZR, a camera-specific rigging solution for a much smaller body, as well as the company’s move into camera bags with its 25L backpack. The new Sony FX6 kit stays closer to SmallRig’s core rigging category but is built around a larger cinema camera setup with vertical shooting support, V-mount power, cable management, and accessory mounting.

The main distinction of this kit is its vertical shooting setup. The included side handle adapter allows users to reposition the FX6’s original side handle vertically while retaining access to its native controls.
The side plate also includes a mounting point for an optional top handle, which SmallRig says can help with low-angle vertical shooting and rig transport. This makes the kit more specific than a general-purpose FX6 cage, especially for productions delivering portrait-oriented video from a cinema camera.

The kit uses a modular design built around a top plate, two right-side plates, a left-side NATO rail, and a baseplate. It includes multiple 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 mounting points, ARRI-style locating holes, a cold shoe mount, and a HawkLock quick-release NATO rail for accessories.
The cage is made from aluminum alloy and silicone. It measures 146.3 x 174.5 x 173.8mm (5.8 x 6.9 x 6.8 in) and weighs 645.7g (22.8 oz).

The kit includes a V-mount battery plate and adapter, along with a D-Tap-to-DC power cable, an extension cable, and a cable clamp. The included power accessories can be used as part of an external power setup for the camera and attached accessories.
