MATT Naulty has had his say on the race to be Supercars’ new permanent play-by-play caller being won by his long-time mate Richard Craill.
Craill yesterday was officially appointed to the role going forward, pipping Naulty and Chad Neylon after each was given a two-round trial.
Naulty’s opportunity came most recent of all at the Tasmania Super440 and Darwin Triple Crown, and just like Neylon, he was exceedingly gracious upon reacting to the verdict.
“We both met in 2004 and instantly clicked as mates through our love for the Adelaide Grand Prix and from that point I knew we would be life long mates…..and that will continue,” he wrote of Craill.

“We have called literally hundreds and hundreds of hours of Motorsport on track and on TV over those years. Had just as many hours of chats on the phone, in cars, on planes, bars and nightclubs lol.
“We also took in some life changing experiences over that period including the 100th Indy 500 together back in 2016.
“This year he, Chad Neylon and myself were all given a huge opportunity to commentate the Supercars as lead caller….. A career highlight for all of us!
“And while it didn’t go my way, I’m super excited for him as I know he will smash this and do it justice…. A total pro on all levels. Congratulations mate!
“As for me, I head back to support land and look forward to the rest of 2026.”
