At the start of the century, Colleen Aubrey found herself pitched into the first of local media companies’ many battles to survive in the internet era, working for the online job search group CareerOne. Her desire to escape and join the leaders of the tech revolution led to her eventually ascending to the inner circle of the world’s fourth-richest person, Jeff Bezos, to become one of Amazon’s most important global executives.
Aubrey, 52, was in Australia this week, meeting customers and local staff of the AI Applied Solutions division at Amazon Web Services, the online retailer’s cloud computing cash cow, which she has recently been charged with building from scratch.
