Basketball Manitoba is bringing back its community-focused “Nothin’ But Nets” initiative for 2026, aiming to improve access and playability on outdoor basketball courts across the province through the distribution of free nets and, for the first time, replacement rims.
Since launching in 2021, the initiative has provided more than 525 nets to public courts across Manitoba, helping ensure outdoor spaces remain usable and welcoming for players of all ages.
This summer, the program is expanding beyond nets to include a limited number of replacement rims for courts where equipment has become damaged or worn out.
Because of their size and installation requirements, rims must be picked up in person at the Sport Manitoba building in Winnipeg. Installation must also be completed by, or with permission from, the facility owner or operator.

Supporting community courts
Basketball Manitoba says the goal is to strengthen outdoor basketball spaces during the province’s short summer season, when courts see their highest levels of use.
The organization says improving basic infrastructure, such as nets and rims, can make a significant difference in participation and enjoyment at community courts.
Mapping Manitoba’s courts
A key part of the initiative is the Manitoba Basketball Outdoor Court Map project. Only courts listed on the map are eligible for equipment under the program.
The map currently includes more than 335 outdoor public courts and more than 840 individual hoops across Manitoba.
Communities with courts not yet listed are encouraged to submit their information before applying for nets or rims.
How the program works
Eligible applicants can receive up to two nets and one rim per court, with priority given to the first 100 requests received this summer.
Approved nets are mailed directly to recipients, who are responsible for installation. Recipients must also provide proof of installation, including before-and-after photos, to remain eligible for future requests.
Basketball Manitoba says the program is designed to make outdoor basketball more accessible, better maintained, and more enjoyable across the province.
Requests for nets or rims can be submitted free of charge through the organization’s online application form.
