THE Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit is not going anywhere despite the defection of international two-wheel racing to South Australia.
That’s the assurance provided by the Fox family via comment made to Australian Motorcycle News.
It follows legendary track designer Bob Barnard voicing fears about the Victorian venue’s future, including rumours that it could be turned into a golf course.
“The track is definitely not for sale, and we have no interest in building a golf course on our land at Phillip Island,” Linfox Australia director Andrew Fox told AMCN’s Mark Bracks.
“Nor is it on the market. It never has been. The land will definitely remain a racetrack.
“Let me make that very, very clear on behalf of the Fox family.
“In relation to talk of a golf course, the last time that was proposed (on land adjacent to the track), the council voted against it. So why would the Fox family waste their time again, especially at the expense of destroying the track?”
Andrew Fox, the son of Lindsay, is managing director of Linfox Property Group which purchased the Phillip Island circuit in 2004.
While MotoGP and the World Superbike Championship are heading to Adelaide and The Bend, respectively, a new Phillip Island Festival of Motorsport is set to debut.
Per the Phillip Island & San Remo Advertiser, the inaugural edition “will be held March 12-14, 2027, with plans for a full week long event” the following year.
Supercars has also shown interest in returning to the Island for the first time since 2019.
