Karl Stefanovic has held onto his prestigious speaking gig at the elite boarding school, Prince Alfred College, following a string of career blows in the last week.
The broadcaster, 51, was axed from Channel Nine’s Today show after 21 years over his controversial podcast interview with far-right activist Tommy Robinson.
Days later, he was also dumped from his new ARN radio show, which he co-hosted with Eddie McGuire.
Stefanovic will appear as a guest speaker at the Adelaide school’s black-tie dinner at the Adelaide Convention Centre on July 31.
According to the Courier Mail, he was booked for the gig several months ago and will take home an appearance fee “in the tens of thousands of dollars”.
Only Prince Alfred College alumni can attend the event, and tickets cost $140.
Announcing Stefanovic’s appearance in a social media post last month, a spokesperson said the school was “delighted” to have him involved.
“Karl isn’t just a household name – he’s the voice Australia wakes up to,” they wrote.
“For more than two decades, Karl has commanded Nine’s Today Show, bringing Australians the stories that shape our world with trademark sharpness, warmth and unshakeable authenticity.”
The announcement added that Stefanovic “remains one of the country’s most trusted and magnetic presenters” and referred to his “bold and honest” eponymous podcast.
“He’s stepping into conversation too bold, too honest and too unfiltered for traditional TV. Nothing’s off limits,” it said.
On Wednesday, the presenter appeared visibly emotional as he discussed his Nine exit with journalist Piers Morgan.
He told the Brit, 61, that he was feeling “discombobulated” by the fallout from the Robinson episode because he believed it was a “legitimate interview”.
“I thought Tommy Robinson was a legitimate interview for us to pick up,” he said, adding: “We did it. I put it up on air and a couple of days later – boom.”
Stefanovic then struggled to hold back tears as he discussed how the saga had impacted his loved ones.
“My wife, she puts up with a lot,” he admitted. “For me to hear her upset, it was the hardest thing.”
Nine announced on June 26 that the broadcaster would leave the network “immediately”, despite previously agreeing to fulfil his contract until the end of the year.
“Nine Entertainment and Karl Stefanovic have agreed that it is no longer possible for him to continue hosting Today at the same time as his independent podcast,” a spokesperson said.
Days later, ARN confirmed it had also cut ties with Stefanovic, and he will no longer be hosting the weekly Gold radio show, The Long Weekend.
Stefanovic had only hosted two episodes of the radio show after it launched last month, and it is understood it will now be reframed around McGuire, 61.
According to AFR, insiders said the network decided to terminate Stefanovic’s $200,000 contract last week.
