As former Iowa basketball star Drew Thelwell continues his professional journey with Pau-Lacq-Orthez in France, the 6-foot-2 guard has been named to Jamaica’s qualifying team for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
In his first season in France’s Élite 2 league, the former Hawkeye recorded 10.9 points, 1.8 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.2 steals in 31 games played.
In his one season with the Hawkeyes in the 2024-25 campaign, Thelwell averaged 9.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists across 29 games. He shot around 50% from the field and a strong 41.2% from 3-point range.
As Jamaica tries to qualify for the 2027 FIBA World Cup, Thelwell will certainly help with his superb outside shooting presence and ability to generate scoring opportunities for teammates.
