Craig Foster has called on the Australian government to get onboard with investing in football from a young age in Australia.
Speaking on Nine’s Today, Foz gave an impassioned plea to the Prime Minister to give further money and investment in the world’s biggest sport after the Socceroos fantastic run.
“The most important thing we can do right now is say to Anthony Albanese, we need a plan and we need some investment,” he said on Nine’s Today.
“Listen, Albo, you’ve been wearing your shirt this whole time with Matildas and with the Socceroos and that’s great mate, you know we really love that and your support for the game.
“But Australia needs more vision. We need vision in football. You’ve seen how our Socceroos have brought this country together, it’s unbelievable. It’s like nothing else, and that’s what the country needs.
“We don’t just need sporting success, we need success as a country to come together and feel pride. Let’s do both, mate.
“We need a plan to win the male and female World Cup…But we need to invest in the kids. Put it in the schools, let’s have programs. We need Mbappés, we need Dembélés, we need Messis, mate. This is what we need.
“It’s good for football, it’s great for Australian sport, but come on, this is the best thing you can possibly do for Australia.”
