Netflix has reportedly greenlit a sequel to its most watched show ever after initially insisting that it was a limited series.
British series Adolescence, starring Stephen Graham and Owen Cooper, became Netflix’s fourth most popular English-language series of all time after it debuted last year.
The first season follows the story of Jamie Miller, a 13-year-old boy who is arrested for the murder of one of his classmates.
With over 114 million views in its first few weeks, the show holds a 99 per cent score on Rotten Tomatoes and became a cultural phenomenon.
The show brought issues around online-provoked male violence and teens radicalised by the ‘manosphere’ to the front of the social conversation, and was praised for its masterclass acting and its daring filmmaking approach: each hour-long episode was filmed in one single take.
Now, following its huge success, insiders are claiming that Netflix has roped in Hollywood icon Kate Winslet to star in the show’s follow-up season.
“It’s happening and in development. There’s excitement that Kate’s on board”, a source close to Netflix told Daily Mail.

While show star Graham previously hinted that if the show were to return its likely the unique format would remain, he also insisted that plot featured in the first series was “over”.
It wouldn’t be the first time Winslet has starred in a series about a troubled teen.
In 2022, the Oscar winning actress starred opposite her daughter Mia in Channel 4’s I Am Ruth, about a teen driven to depression by social media.
Meanwhile, actor Graham revealed in an interview last year the one thing he can’t stand about fellow actors.
“There is a lot of actors that aren’t on time,” he admitted in an interview with MailOnline.
“That’s exceptionally disrespectful. To leave a crew, that have been there well before you and will leave well after you, waiting around because you are some Lord and Saviour and the goose that lays the golden egg is disgusting … it’s just not cricket.”
Last year, Graham was nominated for the gong at the Actor Awards – previously known as the SAG Awards.
However, he lost out to co-star and prodigy Cooper, who became the youngest ever actor to win the award.
