A severe test for Taylor Fritz as the American had a hard match against Lorenzo Sonego. However, the sixth seed came through a fourth set tiebreak to reach the second week at Wimbledon and will fancy his chances of going all the way in week two. So far, Fritz has reached two finals on grass in Stuttgart and Halle as he has been playing some confident tennis over the grass court season. Fritz will be hoping he can continue this form up as he will be a threat to any player and at minimum will look to match his semi-final result from last year. The question is can Fritz’s game thrive under pressure as he looks to turn his dreams into a reality?
The next challenge for Fritz will be the dangerous Alexander Bublik. The Kazakh came through a thrilling five set clash against Frances Tiafoe to reach the last 16 at Wimbledon. Although Bublik has often had the talent and potential to do well, the tenth seed has never had the consistency or patience to back that up. However, over the last 12 months Bublik seems to have enhanced his concentration levels and has been able to put a run of form together. That will hope to continue for Bublik as the Kazakh will aim to score a big win and put himself in the conversation for a deep Wimbledon run and potentially the title.
Fritz will aim to be aggressive on the first serve and will use the backhand to put Bublik on the backfoot. Meanwhile, Bublik will use the forehand to created depth and will look to finish points off at the net. Their last meeting was in grass a few weeks ago where Fritz won the Stuttgart semi-final in straight sets and it’s expected this will be a tighter match with the same winner being produced.
Prediction: Fritz in four sets.

Linda Noskova’s Wimbledon is going under the radar. The ninth seed is now the highest ranked seed left in her half of the draw and after Iga Swiatek and Elena Rybakina were both eliminated. Yet, nobody seems to be speaking about Noskova as a potential champion at Wimbledon this year. That will suit Noskova who seems to thrive on not being the centre of attention and has continued to play some immaculate tennis. Having won the WTA 500 event in Berlin a couple of weeks ago, Noskova will aim to continue her winning streak on grass and add to the list of names from Czechia that have won this title.
Standing in Noskova’s way of the quarter-finals is Madison Keys. Rather unbelievably, Keys was playing on Centre Court for the first time in her career when she knocked out last year’s finalist Amanda Anisimova. The American is another player who won a title heading into Wimbledon this year when she took the Eastbourne title before Wimbledon. Having only reached one Wimbledon quarter-final before, Keys will now look to reach another one this year and prove that she is a big threat on grass despite previous results at SW19 saying otherwise.
Noskova will look to be aggressive on the forehand and will use the angles to make Keys feel uncomfortable. Meanwhile Keys will need to get a high first serve percentage as she will aim to get her first shot after the serve to be on the forehand side. This will be a match between two confident players who will aim to play first strike tennis. The variety of Noskova may give her the edge here in what will be an intriguing match with a big opportunity on the line here.

This is the year that Alex De Minaur believes he can achieve a special result. The Australian’s draw has opened up and he is on course to reach the semi-finals at Wimbledon for the first time in his career. An improvement in the serve as well as being able to hit efficient winners on the forehand side has been the key difference for the fifth seed as his results have improved on the grass. Now with a best result at Wimbledon on the cards, De Minaur will look to avoid being complacent as a second quarter-final at SW19 beckons.
Standing in De Minaur’s way is Flavio Cobolli who is continuing his form from Roland Garros. It’s a second consecutive fourth round at Wimbledon for the Italian after his win over Karen Khachanov and he has backed up his run to the Roland Garros final. That loss in the final in Paris would have hurt Cobolli but there is no doubting that it would have inspired him to experience more moments like this. The ninth seed will hope that starts at Wimbledon as he looks for a first Wimbledon quarter-final.
De Minaur will continue to serve effectively on the first serve and will use the backhand down-the-line to create the space on the court. Meanwhile, Cobolli will use the forehand to put De Minaur in uncomfortable positions in the court as the Italian will look to be aggressive on the second serve return. This will be a technically clean match with both players looking to engage in long rallies. De Minaur will problem solve his way through to the quarter-finals in a match that could go all the way.
Prediction: De Minaur in five sets.
