The two-time Tour de France champion will have plenty of firepower to support his bid for a first career Vuelta a España win, including Matteo Jorgenson and 2023 Vuelta winner Sepp Kuss.

The last time Visma-Lease a Bike committed several star climbers to the hunt for a Vuelta a España title, in 2023, they swept the podium – albeit after a controversy over which of its riders would win. They would probably “settle” for just the victory this year, and with the eight-rider lineup they revealed on Monday, they will be confident in their chances of getting Jonas Vingegaard his first career Vuelta victory as the race looms.
“I’m here for the overall win, and with this team supporting me, that seems like a realistic goal,” Vingegaard acknowledged in a Visma statement.
The two-time Tour de France winner, fresh off another defeat to Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) in that race, has finished as highly as second overall in the Vuelta, achieving that result in the 2023 edition where his teammate Sepp Kuss secured the red jersey with then-teammate Primož Roglič rounding out the podium. Then as now, Vingegaard was the pre-ordained leader. This time around, maybe he will keep that title through to Madrid, even if he will once again have some big talents sharing the team bus with him.
