An Indian artist paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi by creating this beautiful – and gigantic – pin and thread art.
It’s actually the largest pin and thread art in the world, at a staggering 23.67 m² (254 ft²).
To help you picture the scale, that’s about the size of one-and-a-half parking spaces.
It was created by Sreekanth Sukumaran after a little encouragement from his loved ones to attempt a world record.
He created the stunning artwork in November 2024, with a crowd watching on as the image of the beloved Indian figure came together one thread at a time.
Sreekanth has been a skilled artist since his school days, and his precision and passion is clear in this video footage.
It’s quite mesmerizing to watch the image appear via nothing but threads wrapped around pins and carefully overlapped with one another.
It took Sreekanth nine continuous hours of work to complete his artwork.
There are other residents of India who also have records relating to the famous lawyer – real name Mohandas Gandhi – who lived from 1869 to 1948.
Gandhi is revered as the “Father of the Nation” in India, and the country even celebrates his birthday as a national holiday.
In 2018, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Rajender Reddy Gunna (both India) organized the largest gathering of people dressed as Mohandas Gandhi in Nalgonda, Telangana.
They broke the record with a total of 4,772 people in costume.
Rajeshkumar Thakkar (India) is the proud owner of the largest collection of stamps featuring Mohandas Gandhi. He has 1,604 of them.
