Ipswich’s Limestone Park will host quarter finals of the 2025 StreetSmarts AFLQ Schools Cup today for the first time in the competition’s history.

Schools from across Brisbane, Logan and Ipswich will compete on Tuesday August 19 and Thursday August 21. Other quarter finals will be hosted at Maroochydore Multi Sports Complex featuring schools from the Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay regions.

The competition is proudly presented by AFL Queensland and Ipswich City Council, who has signed a two-year agreement to host games for the annual competition.

More than 600 students will compete across six divisions of school footy.

The winners from each division will advance to the next stage of Semi Finals on the Gold Coast and Logan. The winners from that competition will then book themselves a spot in the premier Queensland State Finals to be played on the Sunshine Coast in October.

All 12 games in Ipswich and six games in Maroochydore will be livestreamed and commentated, thanks to AFL Queensland’s partnership with KommunityTV.

Head of AFL Queensland and International Trisha Squires thanked Ipswich City Council for their support of the competition.

“2025 looks set to be another record breaking year for our StreetSmarts AFLQ Schools Cup Competition, with more than 800 teams participating,” she said.

“We are so excited to see the best schools from across southern Queensland play in Ipswich and showcase their skills and ability at the quarter finals.

“We thank Ipswich City Council and all AFL Queensland staff, umpires, students, teachers, parents and administrators for supporting this year’s competition.”

Ipswich City Council Community and Sport Committee Chairperson Councillor Jacob Madsen said hosting the 2025 StreetSmarts AFLQ Schools Cup quarter finals highlighted the growth of the sport in Ipswich.

“The people of Ipswich absolutely love sports and Australian Rules football is undoubtedly one of the fastest growing in our city, particular since the Brisbane Lions set up their base at Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield Central,” Cr Madsen said.

“Lions AFLW premiership player Dakota Davidson hails from Ipswich and our local Aussie Rules clubs continue to go from strength to strength.

“Council is proud to support the Aussie Rules football community in Ipswich and I’m delighted we have the privilege of hosting the state’s best young footy stars for the 2025 StreetSmarts AFLQ Schools Cup quarter finals.”
