ANOTHER milestone is in store for Chaz Mostert this weekend, as he celebrates 200 Supercars Championship races for the Walkinshaw organisation.
Mostert made a high-profile switch from Tickford Racing at the end of 2019 and has since been the face of the Clayton team through its transitions from Holden to Ford to Toyota.
In that time, he has been central to it scaling Supercars’ ultimate heights once more, conquering the Bathurst 1000 in 2021 (with Lee Holdsworth) and winning the championship last year.
Mostert on Sunday is due to become the fourth driver in the history of Walkinshaw TWG Racing (and its previous guises, Holden Racing Team and Walkinshaw Andretti United) to the double century mark.
“I’ve been celebrating quite a few milestones recently, it must mean I’m getting pretty old,” said the 34-year-old, who made the 400th start of his career last month in Darwin.
“But in all seriousness, celebrating 200 races with the Walkinshaw TWG Racing Team is awesome, it’s pretty hard to put into words how thankful I am for every guy and girl in this incredible team.”
Mostert is under contract for several more seasons and still has a way to go reach Mark Skaife’s HRT tally of 336 starts.
For now, Townsville is the task at hand. Mostert has 11 podiums from 35 races in north Queensland – but never a win.
“I really enjoy heading to street tracks, especially Townsville, I look forward to this round every year,” he said.
“This track is really technical and reward the risk takers but can come back and bite you hard if you push the limited too much.”
