Welcome to the third issue of HC’s highlights platformed by Green and Gold Rugby, where the World’s Game will be talked about nonstop. Today, we will talk about various forums of rugby that have made for a great week of entertainment for all fans involved.

Over the previous weeks the Super W (Women’s) comp has been in the background of major international competitions including the Nations Championship/Cup with 5 teams participating in the tournament the NSW Waratahs, ACT Brumbies, Queensland Reds Western Force and Fijian Drua rugby teams. In the previous week they ended their regular season with Drua having the bye and the Force beating the Brumbies 36-20 and the Reds beating Waratahs 26-19. The Semi Finals will be played on the 18th of July as in the morning the 1st seeded Drua playing the 4th seeded Reds in Fiji and the 2nd Seeded Force playing the 3rd seeded in the afternoon at Perth.

Drua leading the way

The Shute Shield fixtures over the previous weekend were a mixture of low scoring dog fights, high scoring affairs and Eastwood having their weekly bashing of their opposition, with the Hunter Wildfires going down to the wrath of the Eastern Suburbs 62-0. Other fixtures included Gordon beating Eastwood 15-7, USYD shooting out Manly 48-40, Warringah convincingly defeating Norths 29-15 Randwick stumbling out of the blocks against Souths though still winning 40-26 and West Harbour going so close to
beating Western Sydney losing 40-36.

Furthermore this round of fixtures will be critical to all clubs as teams will be playing opposition in similar ladder positioning to them which will create a great atmosphere for this week of Rugby.

Sydney Subbies rugby this week was a spectacle to watch as the amateur game had some games to watch in its premier competition, the Kentwell Cup. The game of the week was the matchup between Waverly and Drummoyne at the oval of the same name as the hosts lost 42-41 in a match that was decided by attack rather than defence something that is rarely seen in the Suburban Competition. Other fixtures included Petersham vs Colleagues where Colleagues won 40-33 at Rose Bay Hunters Hill beat Mosman at Boronia Park 27-19 and Blue Mountains beat Lindfield 27-23 at Lapstone.

As we look ahead to the upcoming week of fixtures it will be a reverse of the third round of Fixtures with Colleagues taking in Drummoyne, Waverly hosting Petersham, Hunters Hill welcoming Lindfield and Mosman taking the trek to play Blue Mountains.

In the International Game over the weekend Australia played Ireland in a really tight encounter that seemed like Australia’s win for about 60 minutes but in the last 20 Ireland shocked the Sydney crowd and took the lead with minutes to go with Ireland winning 33-31. Trailing late in the game the Wallabies had a penalty in somewhat kickable range, Carter Gordan stepped up to the plate and missed. In hindsight the Aussies should of kicked for touch to maul of the Irish Defence as their place conversions had been either short or wide throughout the entire game.

This week’s clash for the Wallabies will be entertaining with Australia playing powerhouses France in an enthralling rematch at Lang Park in Brisbane. The last time these two teams played in Brisbane Australia won with a man down for 75 minutes with winger Merika Korinibete being sent off in the 5th minute of play. The Wallabies will look to engage in similar resilience against the French this Saturday night.

That’s it for HC’s Highlights this week.
