ADAM Garwood has logged some early laps in Queensland’s tropics, with a test run of his Touring Car Masters Ford Capri at the DriveIT NQ circuit ahead of this weekend’s third round for the season on the Reid Park Circuit.
Following Sydney Motorsport Park and Symmons Plains, Garwood currently sits third in the standings behind Steve Johnson and Scott Cameron, with the hybrid street-circuit/road-course set to play to the strengths of the Ford.
The 2.75km-long DriveIT circuit, located some 40km south of the Townsville CBD, has been in operation since 2023, with its multi-discipline facilities hosting various types of motorsport.
Recently, the circuit’s latest addition was a paved access road.
For Townsville, the Touring Car Masters has attracted a strong field of 26 starters, with some big guns coming out to play.
Reigning champion Joel Heinrich is back for the Whiteline Transport equipe, joined by Kiwi ace Angus Fogg in his fire-breathing Mustang.
Also joining the grid will be Tony Karanfilovski aboard an Allan Moffat tribute Ford Mustang, while Jordan Cox returns in his Mazda RX-7, which should be more at home on the flowing layout.
Elsewhere, heavy hitters in the field will include Johnson, Cameron, Ryan Hansford, Marcus Zukanovic, Danny Buzadzic, Jim Pollicina, Andrew Fisher, plus the ever popular Cameron Tilley in his Valiant Pacer.
The Touring Car Masters this weekend will follow the class’s typical format, with practice and qualifying on Friday, followed by the Trophy Race and Race 1 on Saturday, with the final two hit-outs scheduled for Sunday.
