A confronting video that appeared across social media had prompted an animal cruelty investigation after it showed a man allegedly throwing a black cat at a door.
The footage, which was widely shared on Facebook including by advocacy pages Australians Against Animal Abuse and Animals First Australia, appears to show a man holding the cat before hurling it with force at a wardrobe door.
The animal then falls into a washing basket and runs to the side of the room, before the young man turns the camera on himself and appears to have a blank expression.
Animals First Australia said it had “submitted reports to Crime Stoppers and RSPCA Vic”.
“We are seeking any further information that may assist with our report,” the statement said.
“If have any other relevant information, please contact us urgently.
RSPCA Victoria confirmed it was looking into the matter.
“We can confirm we have received a report regarding this matter, and an investigation is underway,” an RSPCA spokesman told NewsWire.
“As this is an active investigation, we’re unable to provide any further information.”
The organisation also urged people with direct knowledge of suspected animal abuse to report concerns straight to RSPCA Victoria.
“It is crucial any concerns for animal welfare in the community are reported directly to RSPCA Victoria by first-hand witnesses,” the spokesman said.
