A 16-year-old boy has been charged with murder after a man was found with critical stab wounds on the NSW Mid North Coast, with police confirming the pair knew each other.
Emergency services were called to a home in Taree at around 5am on Monday.
A 36-year-old man died at the scene after he tried to seek help at a neighbour’s house.
Superintendent Grant Erickson said NSW Police established Strike Force Hexalon to investigate.
“This is a sad and tragic event, and I’m acutely aware there are members of the community who may have information in relation to this event,” he said.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank certain members of the community coming forward with information that we’ve gathered and collated with forensic and other evidence that we’ve got.”
Superintendent Erickson said the deceased man was not known to police, but the teenager was.

The 16-year-old was arrested at a home in Taree on Wednesday and later charged with murder.
Superintendent Erickson said the teenager and man knew each other, but were “not associates”.

The teen appeared before the Parramatta Children’s Court today, where he did not apply for bail, which was formally refused.
The matter will return to Taree Children’s Court on September 10.
