The Spurs have fired former Golden State Valkyries broadcaster Jacob Tobey as their lead play-by-play announcer after an affair he allegedly had with the sister of former Warriors player Lindy Waters III, who played in San Antonio last season, according to a report published Thursday in Front Office Sports.
Tobey called games for the Valkyries on CBS Bay Area (KPIX-TV) during their inaugural season in 2025 but did not return to the broadcast this season — Jordan Kent currently serves in the role. He has been the play-by-play man in the Spurs’ booth since 2024.
The news, which is attributed to FOS reporter Ryan Glasspiegel’s anonymous sources, comes after a week in which the broadcaster went viral for posts shared on his Instagram account that accused him of cheating on his girlfriend with Loren Waters. Her brother is Lindy Waters III, who played 38 games for the Warriors in the 2024-25 season before Golden State sent him to Detroit as part of the multi-team Jimmy Butler trade. The five-year NBA veteran played for the Spurs last season and is currently a free agent.
“This is my girlfriend of six years,” one post read. “@lorenkwaters But I cheated on her with Loren Waters. So feel free to continue following me if you really think I’m a good guy because I’m not. :)”
Tobey’s ex-girlfriend later revealed that she was the one who made those posts on his Instagram, which have since been deleted. The former San Antonio broadcaster made his social media accounts private in the days since.
