St George Basketball has celebrated one of the most successful junior representative seasons in the Association’s history, with a record seven teams qualifying for the 2026 Finals Series.
The 2026 season also marked another significant milestone, with a record 12 junior representative teams taking the court, highlighting the continued growth of the Association’s development pathways and commitment to providing opportunities for young athletes.
The Association thanked every player, coach, manager, volunteer, family member and supporter whose dedication and passion contributed to the success of the season.
Despite the logistical challenges of accommodating a record number of representative teams, St George Basketball worked closely with local schools and sporting venues to ensure every team had access to quality training and competition facilities.
The Association acknowledged the generous support of Blakehurst High School, Georges River Grammar, Sydney Technical High School, Rockdale PCYC, Arncliffe Youth Centre, All Saints Grammar and Hurstville Aquatic Centre for helping make the season possible.
St George Basketball also recognised the extraordinary commitment of its coaches and team managers, who collectively volunteered countless hours to develop players both on and off the court.
The Association extended its gratitude to its major sponsors—City Ford Rockdale, Club Rivers, The Lantern Club and The Wellness Department—as well as club sponsors Club Central, Marvel Skip Bins and Queens Pastri House for their ongoing support.
The highlight of the season has been a historic achievement, with seven of the Association’s 12 representative teams earning places in the 2026 Finals Series—the highest number of finalists in St George Basketball’s history.
The teams progressing to the finals on Sunday, 19 July, are:
Under 12 Boys
Under 14 Boys
Under 14 Girls
Under 16 Girls
Under 18 Boys White
Under 18 Boys Grey
Under 18 Girls
St George Basketball General Manager Valerie Stoddart said the achievement reflected the dedication shown across the entire representative program.
“We are incredibly proud to have seven teams qualify for the finals. Every one of our representative teams has shown commitment, resilience and tremendous effort throughout the season. Congratulations to all of our players, coaches and families for representing St George Basketball with pride,” Stoddart said.
Treasurer George Aliferis said the milestone was the result of years of planning and a united club culture.
“We have worked incredibly hard to support and motivate our coaches while building a strong and connected St George Basketball community. We set ourselves ambitious goals this season and together we have achieved them. This success belongs to every player, coach, volunteer, parent and supporter who has contributed throughout the year,” Aliferis said.
Board Member and Coaching Director Luther Shannon said the success reflected the tireless efforts of the Association’s volunteers.
“The countless hours our coaches, managers and volunteers invest in developing our players continue to produce outstanding results. While we’re proud of making history this season, we remain focused on continuing to improve and creating even greater opportunities for our athletes in the future,” Shannon said.
On behalf of its Board of Directors, staff and volunteers, St George Basketball congratulates all junior representative teams on an outstanding 2026 season and wishes its seven finalists every success as they strive to reach the Grand Finals.
