The criminal trial for former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez has been pushed from July 13 to Sept. 8, according to WIBC’s Jarrett Lewis. This marks the fifth time Sanchez’s trial has been continued to a later date. He was originally scheduled to go on trial in December before the delays.
Sanchez, 39, was taken to an Indianapolis hospital and later arrested in October 2025 after an alleged incident with a 69-year-old truck driver. The trucker told police he used pepper spray and a knife to defend himself against Sanchez after the ex-QB allegedly attacked him.
Sanchez, who worked for Fox Sports at the time, was in Indianapolis to serve as a commentator for a Colts–Raiders game. Sanchez was let go by the network following his arrest.
Sanchez is facing several charges, including felony battery resulting in serious injury. If he is convicted in an eventual trial, Sanchez could face up to six years in prison.
Sanchez was picked by the New York Jets in the first round of the 2009 NFL draft out of USC. He played in the NFL from 2009-2018, spending time with six teams. The Denver Broncos acquired Sanchez in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2016 following Peyton Manning’s retirement.

Sanchez competed for Denver’s starting QB job that summer, which was ultimately won by Trevor Siemian. Sanchez was then cut and the Broncos retained the conditional late-round draft pick they had tentatively agreed to send to the Eagles if Sanchez made the team. After being let go by Denver, Sanchez spent three more years in the NFL as a backup before retiring in 2019. He worked for ESPN and then Fox before the 2025 incident cost him his commentator role.
