An Irish backpacker living Down Under has shared one thing she says “no one prepares you for” when moving to Australia.
The video shared online by Lara O’Byrne, who moved to Perth last year, has left Australians living overseas revelling in nostalgia.
In the clip posted to Instagram, O’Byrne said it is something she will “never get over”, as she filmed the noises of birds flying overhead in an Australian street.
O’Byrne captured herself reacting to the overlapping sounds of the birds in an Australian street.
She was stopped in her tracks and fell silent mid-sentence as the birds squawked louder and louder.
“They’re so funny,” O’Byrne said to the camera.
“I’ll never get over the noise of the birds in Australia,” she captioned the clip.
O’Byrne’s shock at the soundtrack to Aussie life was met with nostalgia and pride online, with Australians sharing their own memories.
“I never realised how loud they were and how much I would miss the sound until I moved overseas,” one viewer commented.
“The sounds of kookaburras in the mornings were my alarm clock for school,” another said.
One Instagram user described the sounds as “relaxing”.
“I haven’t heard these sounds in a few months and I can’t even explain how nostalgic it is,” another said.
Others joked that the deafening sounds of birds are the equivalent of “white noise for Aussies”.
Australia’s bird sounds are unique to Down Under, with almost half of the 828 Aussie bird species reportedly being endemic to the country.
In June, another Aussie bird went viral for its unique and unusual birdsong.
The lyrebird is able to make noises like those of a laser gun or alien, as part of its natural mating call.
Just like the birds captured by O’Byrne, the lyrebird left Aussies expressing their pride in the unusual bird.
